Grade 5 Exam Scope for Finals 2025 Listening 6/11 Wednesday Period 3 Oral 6/12-6/13 Thursday & Friday Period 8 (Thursday) Period 3&4 (Friday) Written 6/17 Tuesday Period 1 Dear Grade 5 Students and Parents, The final exam is approaching, and it is important to be well-prepared. Below is a detailed outline of the topics and skills that will be tested. Reading Street Stories and Readers and Writers Notebook The following stories from our Reading Street curriculum will be included in the exam: Stories RS pages 1. Ten Mile Day p. 146 - 159 RWN pages 2. At the Beach p. 84 - 94 p. 182 - 193 3. Hold the Flag High p. 109 - 119 p. 208 - 219 4. The Ch’i-lin Purse p. 120 - 130 p. 236 – 249 p. 131 - 141 Be sure to review each story thoroughly, including its key elements, vocabulary, and comprehension questions. Vocabulary The exam will cover all vocabulary words from Week #10 to Week #17. Week #18 words will not be tested. For each word, you must know: Spelling&Phonics Definitions Usage in sentences It is important to be familiar with each word and its meaning, as well as how to use it correctly in sentences. Story Comprehension Each of the three stories mentioned will be tested for comprehension. You will be asked to demonstrate your understanding of the following aspects: Main Characters Be able to identify the main characters in each story and their roles. Understand the relationships between the characters and their importance to the story. Story Sequencing Be able to recall the major events of the story in the correct order. You may be asked to recall the events of the story or explain what happens at different points in the narrative. Knowledge of the Story There will be questions on specific details from the stories. Be familiar with: Details & Key Events: Lessons or morals learned from the stories The problems and solutions faced by the characters The setting (time and place) and how it affects the story Character motivations from the stories – why the characters behave or act the way they do. Conventions: Conventions from each of the units will be covered in the final exam. You will need to be able to identify, construct, and use these conventions. Common, Proper, and Collective Nouns Plural Nouns Possessive Nouns RWN p. 87, 94, 104 RWN p. 112, 119, 165, 166 Action and Linking Verbs RWN p. 123, 130, 167 RWN p. 134 ,141, 169 Listening Exam Format Listening to Story & Comprehension: Students will need to listen to a story and answer questions about it. Circle the Correct Vocabulary Word: Listening for the words in a sentence. Recognition of Vocabulary by picture & Listening: Listen to a sentence and identify the correct picture.
